Purpose

You are in the multimedia business. You create and store still images and videos. You need to plan for primary and backup storage of up to 3 years worth of your products. This project provides you the opportunity to research and investigate large capacity (2TB & larger) storage devices and make a selection among those devices based on your business needs. Research at least 3 devices and include the size and model in your answer. Estimate the amount of storage you think you will need using size and quantity estimates for still images and videos, and make your storage device selection based on size, cost, and software provided with the storage device. Present your answer in Table format.

Directions

1. Use the Internet to research external storage devices. Find at least three devices, with a minimum storage size of 1 terabyte (TB), from three different manufacturers. Write a paragraph, IN YOUR WORDS, for each device explaining the features and benefits. Provide the retail cost and include a reference link to each device.
2. Next, write a paragraph explaining which storage device you would purchase. What is your logic behind your choice? Keep in mind, the cheapest is not always the best choice.
3. Lastly, consider the safety and security of your external storage device. Thieves now break into homes to steal data. Stealing personal information can have more financial value than stealing jewelry. How will you ensure that your data on the external storage device remains safe and secure? Write a paragraph with your plan. Be sure to consider physical security of the device and virtual security of the data if the device is stolen. (Hint: encryption of data)
4. Type your paper in MS Word, double-space your document, and save it using the following file-naming convention: LastName_Project1 as a .doc, .docx, or .rtf.
