Hi! I need help with this homework problem. I've gone to office hours and asked other groups (this is a group assignment) but a lot of people are stumped. The question is:
Suppose you have 6 pairs of socks in your sock drawer. It is still dark out in the morning when you get dressed for your 8am CSE class, so you just pull socks out of the drawer at random, one at a time, until you have removed two matching socks. What is the probability that you pull out exactly 5 socks from your sock drawer in the morning?

What I have, is that there need to be a 4 options for 5 socks to include two pairs because one component of the pair can be in any of the first n-1 spaces but the nth item must complete the pair. Otherwise, we have to keep choosing. And that I can do C(12,5) to determine the possibilities for choosing 5 socks out of the 12 total. So my answer is 4/(C(12,5)). My group mates think that's wrong but I'm not sure why.
