IT strategy can (maybe should) be used

how an IT strategy can (maybe should) be used.  Let's say that we are a first line manager in an IT area of a relatively large company.  We just received a copy of the 5-year IT strategy document.  But now what?

 

What should be done with the document? Does it is just sit on our shelf or are there steps IT management should now take based on that document?  How does the document relate to upcoming projects?
