I completely agree with your post. It is very complete and informative. Great points about each style period and you picked excellent examples to compere. Both Caravaggio’s Judith Beheading Holofernesand Fragonard’s The Swing are painters masterpieces each one in its time. I read an interesting fact about The Swing. According to French writer CarlesColle a courtier of Louis XIV ordered French painter Gabriel Francois Doyen to make this painting of him and his mistress, and the one who would put the swing in motion should be a bishop. The painter was afraid of such an obscene plot and transferred the order to Fragonard, who did the work, but painted one of the members of the village community, instead of the bishop.
