The car can be defined as the vehicle that is drivable on a road and used as a means of transport for people. The word “car” is assumed to be derived from the Latin word Carrus or Carrum or the middle English word Carre which means wheeled vehicle. We can also say a 4-wheeler motor vehicle which can take one to eight people to their destination. These are also called as automobiles, auto means self and mobile means movable. Cars were first to come into existence in 1886 when Karl Benz made his very first car. Cars were not available for everyone during the 19th century and by the mid of 20th century, new cars came to market which made possible for middle-class people to afford these. Cars are being more complex with time now we have all the features such as reverse camera and emergency braking assistance. There are different types of cars in the market. Cars run on the different types of fuels based on the engine. Cars run on Petroleum, or we can say gas & diesel. Cars can run on fuels such as biofuel, solar power, hydrogen cells and batteries. There are benefits and costs to use the car as means of transport. We can travel and enjoy our journey in the car. On the same time, we are paying some cost to travel in the car, such as the cost of the car, gas and environmental loss.
The automobile industry was started in late 18’s with the invention and production of Benz cars, Since then cars are changing with every year. The first mass production car of America was Ford model T. American’s adopted cars in the very beginning whereas Europe and other countries took time to adopt the change. Cars were used to travel the destination, there was no features or options available in cars back in 19th century, the 20th-century cars started to become more complex with more safety and comfort features including navigation, brake assist, airbags & music. In the 21st century, cars are even more advanced, safe and reliable. Cars are becoming computerized and can drive by itself. Tesla model S is a great example of the future concept of driving and comfort. The automobile industry is developing and introducing more concepts with time, we have so many options to select from.
There are a variety of cars to satisfy all kinds of needs. Normal and cheap cars are usually for the propose of daily travel and nearby destinations. These cars are affordable, reliable and low on maintenance. Then we can have SUV’s which are big cars used to travel to destinations with the full family, These cars can accommodate up to eight persons. These cars are good for long driving but not that good when you travel in the city. We also have the luxury cars we can say the fully loaded cars with all existing features mainly used by the business man or high-class people. These cars are to travel with comfort and luxury, these are high on maintenance and highly expensive cars. Cars are there almost for every proposed, the most favorite of everyone, but some of the sports cars are affordable by few since these cars are way too expensive for normal people. Cars with high horse power and torques and can give you the feel thrill while you are driving the great push you can feel when you accelerate it to make it worth of every penny you spent on it. With all these different types cars also have different types of fuel systems.
Cars are mainly powered by natural resources including the petroleum and natural gas. Natural resources are easily available for power. There are 1 billion cars in the world as of 2010 and the number is growing rapidly. Natural resources are nonrenewable or they take time to regenerate. The problem for the automobile industry is to keep these 1 billion cars running and serving needs of every individual. This has been taking care of the invention of the fuel cell, flex fuel, and the electric cars. A fuel cell is new to the market and looks for the future means of power for cars. Fuel cell or the hydrogen power cars are eco-friendly and safe for our environment. Other than these there are biogas and electric cars. Electric cars are slow and unreliable to travel for longer distances but with the innovation of Tesla, electric cars started to appear on the road where we can recharge our cars on the way, same as we fill up our tanks but the only problem is that it takes time to recharge.
Cars have many advantages and make our life easier but there is the cost to enjoy these benefits. Cost includes the cost of car and gas, maintenance of the vehicle, parking fees, taxes and the insurance cost. The most important thing is depletion of our environment due to excessive use of natural resources. Automobile industry making changes in the cars to make more reliable cars and the upcoming cars are most eco-friendly which is cause less damage to the environment as compared to the conventional cars. We can hope for an enhanced future with our future dream cars.
