circular conduit

1. A circular conduit is to satisfy the following conditions: capacity when flowing full, 0.13 m3 ·s−1; velocity when the depth is one quarter the diameter, not less than 0.6 m ·s−1. Assuming uniform flow, determine the diameter and the slope if Chézy’s coefficient is 58 m1/2 ·s−1.

2. Show that the surface of the liquid in a circular conduit under conditions of maximum discharge subtends an angle of 302.4◦ at the centre. Determine the diameter of such a conduit at a slope of 1 in 104 and carrying a maximum discharge of 2.8 m3 ·s−1. Assume that u = (80 m1/3 ·s−1)m2/3i1/2.
