Two coaxial flat discs of radius a are separated by a small distance h. Working from first principles for the theory of laminar flow between stationary flat plates of indefinite extent, show that the force necessary to separate the discs in the axial direction is given by (3πµa4/2h3)(dh/dt), where (dh/dt) represents the rate of separation of the discs.
