Discussion: Consider, explain, and discuss one of the key ideas behind the modern stored program computer–the notion that any location in memory–or any byte or word on disk–can either be a symbol, a data item to be “consumed” by a program, or even an instruction that tells some part of the computer what to do and how to do it.

If you’d like to use additional resources (such as from the Internet) to help in developing your discussion post, that’s great–just be sure to provide proper citation to your source, and use your source, don’t just quote from it! Generally speaking, your responses should be two to three paragraphs (about 300 to 400 words).

Post your first response to this topic by the fourth day of the week; then, be sure to come back several times during the week to read what your peers posted. Create an atmosphere of interaction by posting meaningful responses that advance and expand the depth of the discussion. Or if you feel an initial post is weak, debate the post and test the strength of the statements or example.
