The W250 45 wide-flange beam shown in Fig. P6.6-6 is subjected to a moment M that is intended to lie along the z axis (due to loading in the xy plane). (See Table D.2 for section properties.) (a) Determine the effect a “load misalignment” of θ = 2° has on the orientation of the neutral axis. Show the neutral axis on a sketch of the cross section. (b) Determine the maximum tensile flexural stress acting on the cross section and compare this stress with the maximum stress in the beam if the load were property aligned (i.e., θ = 0°). Let M = 30 kN ∙m.
