A useful class experiment would be the one mentioned at the beginning of the chapter. The students in a class (of at least moderate size) could each measure the width of the desk used by the instructor, using both a ruler or other measuring instrument that is at least as wide as the desk and one that is not as wide as the desk. Of course, repeatability could be assessed by having each student make two or three measurements using the same measuring instrument.
