The dataset SUGAR.MTW that comes with MINITAB was analyzed in the context of a paired-t test in Section 6.2. The objective required more than the use of a paired-t test, however, since there was a desire to see if there is a relationship between the expensive lab measurements and the less expensive field measurements so that what the lab measurement would be if made can be estimated from the field measurement. The results for the regression of field measurement on lab measurement are shown below.

 

This suggests a moderately strong linear relationship between the two sets of measurements, although the strength of the relationship might not be sufficient for the intended use of the equation. Now construct a scatter plot of field versus lab. What lesson have you learned?
