A compressive load, P, is applied to a c-clamp similar to the one shown to the right. Section A-A of the c-clamp is assumed to be an I-beam. Its dimensions are the same as those in Problem 1. The eccentric length, L, is the distance between the line of load application and the centroidal axis of the I-beam portion of the c-clamp frame. Determine the following, at Section A-A, if P = 100 lbf. and L = 4.25A????1: the axial stress, sigma 1 ; the bending stresses, sigma 2 , at the inner and outer surfaces; and the combined state of stress at the inner and outer surfaces. It is assumed P is the only force acting on the system. Show all work.
In the combined stress state produced by the loading scenario in Problem 3 there is a neutral axis. The neutral axis is through the point where the combined stresses equal zero. In sam conditions as previous, locate the neutral axis in relation to the centroidal axis of the I-beam portion of the c-clamp. The point of zero stress may be imaginary: it may be located outside the clamp frame at a point in space.
I have an answer but would like to compare with what the Chegg community gets. Thanks.
