The Monsanto case is a good example of how individual people are fighting back against the rise of biotechnology in our food. Monsanto is very proud to point out that their GMO seeds have no caused the havoc and destruction that so many critics foretold. That does not mean that the public trusts their product however. The people have spoken and it is the responsibility of the various governments to insure that people’s right to health is protected. As our book pointed out, many European countries have banned certain GMO seeds and chemicals from their food and luxury items. Brazil, India, China, and the US have not. Their defense, similar to Monsanto’s defense, is that no harm has been seen from these biotech products. However, just because no harm has been seen yet, does not mean that people should be blindly using these products. Do people have a right to know what they are consuming and the government should grant them that right? Why?
