In a spark-ignition engine, the integral scale, e0, is found to be approximately equal to one-third the clearance height. At top-dead-center (TDC), the residual inlet jet has a velocity of 30 m/s and a relative turbulence intensity of 30 pecent. Estimate the Taylor and Kolmogorov microscales at TDC, in millimeters, for a motoring (nonfiring) engine. Assume isentropic compression of air from P = 1 atm and T = 300 K with a volumetric compression ratio of 7:1. The TDC clearance height is 10 mm.
