Assume that a simple random sample has been selected from a normally

Assume that a simple random sample has been selected from a normally distributed population and test the given claim. Unless specified by your instructor, use either the traditional method or P-value method for testing hypotheses. Identify the null and alternative hypotheses, test statistic, P-value (or range of P-values), critical value(s), and state the final conclusion that addresses the original claim.

Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) Data Set 13 in Appendix B lists measured voltage amounts obtained from the author’s back-up UPS (APC model CS 350). According to the manufacturer, the normal output voltage is 120 volts. The 40 measured voltage amounts from Data Set 13 have a mean of 123.59 volts and a standard deviation of 0.31 volt. Use a 0.05 significance level to test the claim that the sample is from a population with a mean equal to 120 volts.

Data Set 13: Voltage Measurements From a Home

All measurements are from the author’s home. The voltage measurements are from the electricity supplied directly to the home, an independent Generac generator (model PP 5000), and an uninterruptible power supply (APC model CS 350) connected to the home power supply.
