A psychiatrist compares four treatment programs for clinical depression

In each situation, determine whether one-way analysis of variance could be an appropriate method for analyzing the data described. Briefly explain why or why not for each part.

a. A psychiatrist compares four treatment programs for clinical depression. The response variable is whether or not a patient shows improvement after 2 months of treatment. A randomized experiment is done in which a different group of 20 patients is randomly allocated to each treatment.

b. Three methods for memorizing information are compared. Forty-five participants are randomly divided into three groups, and each group memorizes information with a different method. All participants then take a test on the memorized information, and the scores are used to compare the methods.
