Your audience should be specific and should have less experience in the topic than you. Your audience might be a student in your major who has not yet learned the content. Your audience could be more general. For example, if you are an Exercise Science major, you might have a topic How to Begin a Weightlifting Program. The audience could be beginners - people who have never weight lifted. Your entire manual would have to be targeted to people who have never lifted.
