First research proposal I looked at was:
Prajnawrdhi,T.A 2011, ‘An approach to sustainable development and preservation of cultural heritage in developing countries; An investigation of Denpasar’, Research Proposal PhD in Planning (LPHD), University of South Australia, South Australia, viewed 2 March 2013, <http://ura.unisa.edu.au/R/HNSLBJTSTKA4FNHD8DVX7F2C12GF8C6AMFY42DDA6QA2P5369-01931?func=results-jump-full&set_entry=000012&set_number=000386&base=GEN01-URA10>
(Constructive research)
Â
Findings: aim of research is to develop an approach to sustainable planning, protecting cultural heritage while balancing a growing population and increasing tourism demands. The review of literature showed a vast wealth of research around urban planning, heritage, tourism and their intertwined relationships. ‘Non western’ models of research in this area were limited. The paper involved multidisciplinary and multidimensional approaches throughout.
Â
Opinion: The aim of this paper was well focused and had three realistic research questions. The methodology in the research design, data collection and analysis sections were accompanied by useful diagrams and clearly set out. Diagrams were inserted throughout, building my understanding as I read through. Â (109 words)
Â
Second research proposal I looked at was:
Atem, P.G 2008, ‘Housing pathways and community integration of African refugees in Australia; Towards an understanding of African refugee housing issues’, Research Proposal PhD Candidate, University of South Australia, south Australia, Viewed 2 March 2013, <http://ura.unisa.edu.au/R/HNSLBJTSTKA4FNHD8DVX7F2C12GF8C6HAMFY42DDA6QA2P5369-01759?func=results-jump-full&set_entry=000015&set_number=000386&base=GEN01-URA10>
(Empirical research)
Â
Findings: The aim of this research is to identify the housing needs of growing African refugee community and provide policy makers with creative solutions to improve re-settlement. The researcher used sociological communicative planning theory framework, focusing heavily on past experiences of refugees.
Â
Opinion: working in the housing sector this paper was of great interest. However, it had eleven research questions, each one embodying numerous social issues that could easily take the project in an unwanted direction. The researchers personal experience and attachment to the community gave the paper a constructivist undertone. In my opinion it needed to be more focused. (103 words)

I have looked at two different papers from the archive;
1. Benefits of Green Star Rated Commercial Buildings and the Potential Translation to Industrial Buildings, Zillante, George 2010
This paper discussed the evolution of the Green Building Council, incrasing social awareness of green building, the effects of the sector on the environment and how emissions can be reduced. Currently the process of building a green star accredited commercial building has its benefits, obviously to the environment but also to the occupier of a commerical building, this paper delves into the reason why it would also benefit industrial buildings.
2.The Need for Adaptation of Existing Commercial Buildings for Climate Change, Clarke, Barry and Pullen Stephen, 2008
This paper looks into existing building stock across Australia and compares it to new buildings, which are built using sustainable guidelines. It explains the importance if reviewing existing buildings which are often refurbished, to be closer to the new building guidleines in terms of operationally being sustainable, and how this affects climate change, on a local and global level. Retro-fitting is covered, and this is a key area of interest for my research.

The 2 thesis papers I have looked at are the following:
Â
1. Identification of Leadership Style of Project Manager for Project Success; Yang Yu 2006
The aim of this research was to identify the category and influence of project manager's leadership styles in relation to project success. They had included a very comprehensive literature review which helped support their research topic and great use of case studies to also give the paper more value. This research is exploratory.
Â
2. Understanding Community Values in Planning for a Conservation Strategy; Kamarul Bahrain Shuib 2008
The purpose of this study was to investigate whether community landscape values could be used in conservation strategy planning. This paper had a focus on the lack of structure in the conservation framework in Malaysia. This research is empirical.
