Values for the intercept b and the slope b1 that minimize SSE are found by
taking partial derivatives of SSE with respect to b0 and b1. Setting these equations
equal to zero and solving them gives:
0 b0 = ybar - b1*xbar
b1 = (xi*yi – n*xbar*ybar)/(xi2 – n*xbar2)
These are called the least squares estimates for the intercept b0 and the slope b1.
AKA Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) estimates and the line is the line of “best” fit
