Your human services counseling clients will come to you suffering at one level or another. Our lectures for the last two weeks, and both the course texts, all discuss the concept of suffering and factors guiding how to counsel those who are suffering. In fact, a careful reading of the Reading & Study materials indicates numerous concepts and principles that could apply in counseling those who are hurting.
Scenario
You work primarily for an adoption agency but on some evenings, you volunteer your time at your church’s free counseling clinic. Your client in that setting, Jamie, was recently divorced, and expresses that she “has no direction” in life. She feels very rejected and alone. She often cries in session and in her latest session, lashed out at you, her therapist, since she was “not feeling better.” She questioned whether you were really helping her since she is still “feeling all this pain.” She left asking, “Why can’t you help remove this needless suffering?”
Replies: In your responses to at least two classmates, ELIMINATE simple “I agree” statement. Rather, comment on the strength and weaknesses of your classmates’ posts. Were the five points mentioned by your classmate truly insightful or unique, or were they obvious? Please also briefly critique the suggestions offered by your classmates in responding to the scenario.
Submit your thread by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Thursday of Module/Week 4 and your replies by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Sunday of the same module/week.

Hello Everyone,
Welcome to our second discussion board. Please read the discussion topic thoroughly.
You will need to post your initial discussion before you will be able to view peer posts.
Analysis
There are several parts to this discussion topic. As in the first discussion forum, it helps to itemize each element of the discussion topic.
For the Case Scenario
I can recall a time when I was working with a family system with a focus on the child’s behavior and difficulties. First thing in the morning, I had just walked into my office, and the phone rang. I answered the phone and the parent was screaming in frustration regarding her child. I could hear the child in the background screaming and crying, in temper-tantrum style. The parent literally screamed through the phone, “YOU were supposed to FIX this!” There are different forms of suffering:
Structure
Please remember the preferred format for the discussion board posts:
Review the Discussion Board assignment description and the Discussion Board grading rubric, located in the course content under assignments. Also, review my Discussion Board Expectations in the Instructor’s Help Files for Students, located in the left panel of the course room.
Please note that the initial posts should be no less than 400 words, and will probably require more than that to fully address all the elements in the discussion forum. A post that is quickly typed in and presented conversation style, will not fulfill what is expected for the discussion posts. The initial post should be more like an essay, with subject headings to structure the information, grammatically correct, with a presentation representative of formal writing.
