Blueprint for Action

Throughout this course, you have examined some of the important aspects of generating ideas for new businesses, as well as starting and managing a small business. Think back to the beginning of this course where we talked about some of the major barriers that often prevent potential entrepreneurs from realizing their goal to own a business.

It's now time for you to carefully think about what you are going to do to realize your entrepreneurial goals. Ask yourself these questions:

  • Do you have an idea?
  • Are you ready to generate an action plan?
  • What more might you need to do so?

With these questions in mind,

Blueprint for Action. In this document, you will lay out your plans to take action in the next year to start or better manage your small business. In your document, you should:

  • Describe why being an entrepreneur or small business owner is important to you.
  • Describe the method you will use to identify and evaluate your next small business idea.
  • Define at least three specific and feasible goals for yourself, so you can be the entrepreneur/small business owner that you aspire to be, and establish at least two milestones to meet those goals.
  • Identify at least three success factors that will help you measure your progress toward your identified goals.
  • Evaluate the resources and people you will need to support your goals.
  • Examine risks and challenges you might face in achieving your goals and lay out your plans to overcome or mitigate those.
  • Reflect on the potential impact of your small business in your community. To what extent will you and your small business contribute to positive change? Identify at least three examples.

Include in your responses specific references to this week's resources as well as other credible resources.
