This paper will showcase your learning and understanding of popular culture as it relates to communication

Please follow the below description.

5 to 6 pages, double-spaced

This paper will showcase your learning and understanding of popular culture as it relates to communication. Writing should be succinct and accurate, with all sources cited properly (APA).

Please choose one of the following options for your final paper:

1. Expanded Text Analysis. Read a piece of popular literature (novel, biography etc.) and watch the movie based on that book (in that order). Describe the differences between the book and the movie and why you think those choices were made. Explain your observations using theories/materials learned in class such as: popular culture, globalization, hegemonic/resistive/ideological values, and/or consumer culture. No additional scholarly sources required. To guide your writing, you may use the same format as the text analysis papers, just expanded. See unit 4 for the text analysis guidelines.

Examples of movies with film adaptations: The Hunger Games (if you choose a trilogy, pick one of the books and its corresponding movie), Joy Luck Club, Devil Wears Prada, DaVinci Code, Angels and Demons, Fight Club, Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, My Sisters Keeper, The Color Purple, The Kite Runner, The Godfather, Jurassic Park, Shawshank Redemption, A Clockwork Orange, Alice in Wonderland, The Jungle Book, The Day the Earth Stood Still, The Time Machine, Romeo and Juliet

2. Define Popular Culture. Do a literature review of 5 unique scholarly sources (not including those discussed in class, must be from peer-reviewed journals) to either re-define or expand on the definitions of popular culture discussed in class. Be sure to mention and explain the definitions we spoke about regardless of what you choose. Citations must be correct according to APA standards.

3. Media Impact. Explain how a specific medium has or has not had an impact on popular culture, and try to predict the future of that medium. Back up your claims with at least 5 scholarly sources (must be from peer-reviewed journals) and include relevant concepts from class. You may use additional non-scholarly (or scholarly) sources to back up your point, however you must use the minimum 5 scholarly sources. Citations must be correct according to APA standards.
