A key outcome of this course is that students be able to analyze a firm's resources and capabilities for strategic leveraging to create a sustainable competitive advantage.

Topic : rogers vs bell

Summary

A key outcome of this course is that students be able to analyze a firm's resources and capabilities for strategic leveraging to create a sustainable competitive advantage. With this in mind, students are challenged to individually examine an international business rivalry and explain (using the VRIO framework) why one firm outperforms another.  Students will present their findings in a 3-4 page critical analysis.

Critical Analysis:

-         The report should NOT be a summarization of your reading, rather you should be applying the VRIO framework and supporting your ideas with research.

-         Critical analysis is an important part of this project. This means that you do not need to spend much time collecting data. Rather, after gathering information from the required sources you should use your analytical skills, critical thinking and writing skills to perform a critical analysis of the business rivalry.

-         Your research should be incorporated into your writing to support your ideas. The analysis should be original, based on all of the reading you have done. Ensure that you are properly citing your sources through the report. Excessive quoting or "cut and pasting" will result in lower marks.

Final Report Requirements:

  • 3-4 pages (excluding cover page and appendices)
  • APA Formatting (for citations and referencing as well as overall organization)
  • Minimum of 5 relevant and reputable sources
  • Correct spelling, grammar, punctuation, flow of thought, clarity of ideas and creativity

References:

Anytime you refer to ideas that are not your own, you MUST refer to the source both in text and in the reference page at the end of your essay.

Use APA referencing style when you write up your paper. Ensure that your paper contains a page for references. Refer to http://www.apastyle.org/index.aspx or  http://www.library.cornell.edu/resrch/citmanage/apa  for more information about proper citation.
