ARH E)

Length: Three to Four Pages

Perform an Internet search and browse approximately ten links highlighting sculpture, looking specifically for representations of the four basic methods of sculpture that are covered in Chapter Eleven of your text. (A keyword search using the words visual+arts+sculpture will result in a multitude of sites.) Do not use sculptures from the text for this assignment!

  1. In an essay format and in your own words, clearly define and describe the four fundamental methods of sculpture: modeling, casting, carving, and assembling.
  2. From your Internet search, provide one example of sculpture (in its finished form) designating each of the four sculptural methods. Cite the artworks' full names, their sculptors, their mediums, and their year(s) of creation.
  3. Next, provide a personal analysis of each sculpture's medium and design elements. What do you see when looking at each artwork? Cite original and descriptive observations.
  4. Then explain in your analysis whether you believe each sculpture could have been better served employing a different medium and method. Why or why not?
  5. Last, attach images of the four sculpture examples used in your analysis to your electronic transmission. Also include the exact URLs (Uniform Resource Locators)/Web addresses for all works (e.g.: http://www.louvre.fr/en).

(Note: All written work for this course will be checked for plagiarism/copying using specialized software applications, so be sure to rely on your own impressions and not those of an expert or those presented in an online source! If you cheat, you will earn NO credit for the assignment and risk course failure.)
