Seminar Option 2- Alternative Assignment
Participate in an asynchronous discussion by responding to the Seminar Discussion topics and posting your response in the Seminar Discussion Board in the left navigation bar. You are only required to complete the Alternate Assignment if you are unable to attend the Seminar for that unit. When responding to the Seminar Discussion Topics, you will want to provide thorough responses, incorporating 200–250 words in your response. You are not expected to respond to classmates for the Seminar Discussion Topics.
Your Seminar will focus on introducing the concept of the humanities and the ways you are already engaging in the humanities.
In this Seminar, you will investigate ways that creative expressions in art, music, architecture, literature, and film can act as a response to a cultural revolution.
Think about where you were on September 11, 2001. This day of the attacks, on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and the flight that went down in Pennsylvania, have changed the ways that public policies affect your life and how Americans lead their daily lives. After the loss of so many lives that day, the resulting changes included feelings of grief, uncertainty, anger, and sadness and public policy actions such as war, airport security, and government surveillance.
Creative expressions also changed and had an influence on helping America to heal, to memorialize those who were lost, and to create connections between individuals.
1.     Name one creative expression in art, music, architecture, literature or film that was a product of September 11, 2001. Try to consider a creative expression that was important to you during this time. Not all of these artistic products will be overtly about 9/11, so you are welcome to consider a variety of expressions as a reply to these events. Define and describe the creative expression that you have selected. How was this a response to 9/11?
Â
2.     What was the influence of this creative expression upon you or upon others in the society? How can creative expressions be a way to heal, memorialize, and create connections between individuals?Â
