What do our ethics, as professionals, suggest that we do, with all of this “revolution” stuff? No unread replies.

Discussion: What do our ethics, as professionals, suggest that we do, with all of this “revolution” stuff? No unread replies. No replies.

Professional ethics are those ideas about right and wrong that society expects you to use, as a member of a profession, when making decisions and taking actions within the domain of that profession. Consider a medical doctor, whose medical ethics should guide her to finding the best mix of patient care, cost-effectiveness, and compassion for the patient and his family, while also keeping a larger set of social issues in mind. But if that same doctor wants to make ethical judgments about a highway expansion program, for example, that’s not a medical decision – and thus her judgments are “merely” those of a concerned citizen.

You’re in this course because in some way, shape or form, you identify with the information systems professions (there are many!). Therefore… let’s ask you to sum up what you’ve been studying in this course, and answer this week’s discussion topic.

Just what do your professional ethics tell you that you have a duty, or responsibility, to do, as an individual practitioner in this profession? What should all of us information systems professionals be feeling a duty or responsibility about the BYOD, Cloud and Big Data ideas, ideologies, and the revolutions themselves?

Take a stand. Develop your own position of what should be done, in the ethical imperative sense of that word
