Watch the film below and then answer the following questions: 1) What is the significance of being born rich? 2) Do you think you would have the same outcome if you went to Brown University? 3) What does the producer mean when he says he no longer believes in the myth of meritocracy.

Film name: Born Rich: Children Of The Insanely Wealthy

Your answers: 150 words.

Then reply other three students.

1.

It seems like being born rich can powerfully affect your view on life, how you interact with others, and how they interact with you once they've found out about your financial status. Being a rich kid and not needing to get a job can make it difficult to find your purpose in life. I'm not sure if the same would happen to me, but maybe if I was in the same exact situation something similar would happen. I think the situations we are born in affect how we live, even if we think of it all as free choice. When the producer mentions that he no longer believes in meritocracy, he's referring to how even though he has done nothing, he has inherited more money than people make in a lifetime. Because of this, he believes that while meritocracy being real would be a nice thought, it does not exist if people like him are making money from simply being born in the right family.

2.

The significance of being born rich, to me at least, is that you will never have to worry about things that the middle or lower class worry about. Finances will not be a problem for you and finding work will not be a problem. It will be easy to enjoy the extravagant things and live comfortablY. Like someone said on the movie money doesn't buy you happiness. This is true also because many rich people suffer from various mental illness issues. This was shown by the one kid who talked about using a bunch of drugs. Drig addiction affects these people too.

2. I don't think I would have the same outcome. I would have different choices before me but I am not born into money by any means. I'd have to make my own money.

3. The myth of meritocracy is that people will gain rewards based upon their ability. The producer of this video has done nothing but been born into a rich family. He will gain ultimate rewards for not really doing anything. There are people out there who do so much and cannot hope to gain the wealth that this producer has.

3.

1. In my opinion, the significance of being born rich has both pros and cons to it. I think those who are born rich have opportunities for things that many people could generally not afford. This includes traveling, going to school debt-free, having financial freedom, and enjoying a rather luxury lifestyle (nice house, cars, etc.). I think if you're born rich, you do not experience the trials and hardships that those, say, in the middle and lower classes are going through. I think when you're born rich, and do were not the one "working up the ladder" to get there, it may be easier to take many things for granted, and maybe even struggle with staying well-grounded as a person. The cons to being born rich include people maybe having preconceived notions that you haven't worked hard, people may assume your money equals happiness and brush off your personal struggles (as mentioned in the video), and people may assume that you have always "had it easy" so to say.

2. I don't think I would have the same outcome, because I wasn't born into a rich lifestyle and was not surrounded by those who were rich growing up. I'm sure it would impact me and it would definitely be an experience in itself, but I don't think it would be the same as being born rich.

3. When the producer says he no longer believes in the myth of meritocracy, he means that he disagrees with the notion that many people think of America as an equal land of opportunity. Being born into a rich family, he does not necessarily have to do too much work in order to inherit an immense amount of money..more so than those working very hard may ever gain. So although many people may have a skill that they're working passionately for, he's saying they probably will not nearly gain the same rewards that someone will who was born into a rich family.
