Assessment criteria – further details

§   The task scope and focus of the assignment

You must focus on the requirements of the assignment task and address the purpose of the task, including comprehending and following explicit instructions. You need to identify relevant material (including press reports) and conceptual frameworks that inform your learning.

§   Knowledge and understanding

You are expected to show a good understanding of change management and change leadership concepts (models, frameworks, theories) both from your familiarity with the main course textbook (Managing Change by Beech and Macintosh, 2012) and from your wider reading and material covered in lectures, seminars and workshops.  You are expected to evaluate the actions taken by the leaders/top management in light of the change management literature and change management/ leadership frameworks.  Your analysis might include what the leader didn’t do or didn’t do so effectively when the actions are considered in the context of the literature on change management/leadership.

Evaluation of International Context

Your assignment should consider the international context in relation to the case scenario.  You are also expected to show an understanding of possible cultural limitations of change management and leadership frameworks.  You might consider for example whether the style of leadership/management might have worked in an overseas culture or on a global scale.

§   Argument, structure, synthesis & evaluative conclusion

This refers to the way you connect findings, present a well constructed argument and lead to an overall critical evaluation.  There is no formal requirement to include an appendix.  However, you can include and refer to any analyses you have carried out and wish to include in an appendix.  You must however present your main findings in the main 8 sides of text.  No extra marks will be given for additional arguments presented in an appendix.

Adequacy of referencing

You are required to follow the standards set by the Harvard system of referencing used by the Business school.  Please read the regulations.  Be aware that failure in this area can lead to your referral to the academic conduct officer.
