An empty freight car

1. An empty freight car of mass M starts from rest under an applied force F. At the same time, sand begins to run into the car at steady rate b from a hopper at rest along the track.

Find the speed when a mass of sand, m, has been transferred. (Hint: There is a way to do this problem in one or two lines.)

2. Material is blown into cart A from cart B at a rate b kilograms per second. The material leaves the chute vertically downward, so that it has the same horizontal velocity as cart B, u. At the moment of interest, cart A has mass M and velocity v, as shown. Find dv/dt, the instantaneous acceleration of A.
