In this assignment, I would like you to read the following questions, perform a little research on the Internet (remember your Reference Page), and write a document that answers the issues raised in the questions.  This assignment covers Big Data, Security, U.S. Laws regarding Data and Security, and Privacy. 

 

You may want to think about a couple of recent current events: the Target Data Scandal; the MH370 Malaysia Airlines Incident; Enron; and “DMCA and Garage Door Openers”.

 

Today, it is impossible for business organizations of all sizes and in all industries to ignore data collection, storage, processing, and usage.  More and more companies are getting into trouble because of security breaches involving the data they have collected about customers and employees and business partners.

 

1.        Are there laws in effect at this time to protect

a.       The customers, employees, etc. on whom the data was collected?

b.      The organizations?

c.       The partners or the organizations?

2.       Research the following three laws:

a.       The Patriot Act

b.      DMCA (Digital Millenial Copyright Act)

c.       Sarbanes-Oxley

3.       Write a BRIEF summary of these three laws (not more than half of a page each).

4.       Explain (one sentence should suffice) the entity that each of these laws protects.

5.       Did Target violate any of these laws?
