First, I want you to choose ONE of the many theatre styles or storytelling categories. You have many options to choose from, including Sanskrit Drama, Noh theatre, Kabuki, Bunraku, Miracle Plays, Commedia dell'arte, Jacobean Revenge Drama, and others. Choose something that intrigues you and is focused enough in scope to explore further.
Next, you are required to visit TWO or more websites -- Wikipedia does not count, although you can visit there in addition -- and view TWO or more videos -- these can be short, but they should provide a better understanding or appreciation of the theatre style you chose. It is your goal to learn more than the pages of the textbook provide. What does Bunraku puppetry look like in action? What was it like to be a member of a traveling pageant wagon troupe?Â
Search engines like Google or Bing and Youtube will probably provide the best matches. PLEASE go beyond the first entry and give yourself 20 to 30 minutes to learn more about your choice. For example, scholarly sites like theatre history pages or production diaries from performers acting in that style would be excellent.
Finally, please organize what you have found into an effective presentation of one to two paragraphs and post it to the Discussion board. For full credit, you must present ideas and observations that supplement (but go beyond) the textbook information. If you're stuck, approach the activity by considering these types of statements:
With this discussion prompt, those same statement starts above may be a good beginning to a substantial reply. You are encouraged to connect what you have learned about your theatre topic with the new conversation.
