Library Research Assignment

Sean & Shawn’s American Bistro is having a very difficult time keeping its staff. Turnover is at an all-time high, and morale is at an all-time low. You have been hired as a management consultant to try and fix the problem. After interviewing the employees, you find that there is a common theme with most everyone’s responses: There is a tremendous lack of discipline within the company. Employees are breaking the rules, and management does not seem to care. In some instances, the employees are not sure what the rules are, including the consequences for breaking the rules.

You have decided to create a memo to the management team that addresses the following:

  • Discuss how a lack of discipline can cause high turnover and low morale.
  • Present a progressive discipline system with at least 4 steps, and explain what each step means to the violator.
  • Provide an example of an employee breaking a rule (no call/no show, smoking while not on break, etc.) and how a manager might respond in each step to correct the action.
  • Include an explanation of how this new system is going to improve morale and reduce turnover.
