During Week 3 you reviewed and reported on professional associations supporting the field of psychology. What did you find most helpful and what did you find not helpful or missing from these organizations' websites?

Classmate 1

Greetings class, we are officially past the halfway mark! Great job to everyone thus far. For this week, we are reviewing our work for the Professional Associations Review and Report assignment we completed and analyzing what we found most helpful and what we found not helpful or missing from these organizations' websites. One of the first things that I thoroughly enjoyed about the website for each professional association was the simple fact that each one of them hand their own website. That being said, I know that we are able utilize a retrospective viewpoint and think, “Well, yeah, it would only make sense that each of these organizations would have a website”. However, therein lies the beauty of what I found most helpful.

If these organizations did not have their individual websites for the APA, ACA, SIOP, etc., the assignment would have been much more difficult than it was. Not only this, but I would go so far as to state that if these organizations did not have individual websites, especially in a society that essentially revolves around the internet, than these organizations would hardly be able to function the way they do, if at all. This being said, there would be a drastically low number of memberships as many within our society might be completely ignorant towards even knowing that individual professional organizations exist, much less how to find them. In terms of the most useful/helpful aspect about the organizations’ websites, the fact that they have websites available and open to the public, period, is extremely helpful.

With any organization’s website, there is something that we all found super helpful, but there is also something that we found not helpful at all. The aspect that I found to be the most unhelpful was that all of the websites (however, some more than others) seemed daunting when I arrived on the organizations’ websites. To explain this, would be to say that when I arrived on a website- I will use the SIOP’s website for example- there seemed to be a conglomerate of information that was practically thrown at me and was a bit overwhelming. While this sounds more dramatic than it probably was, my point is that there was enough information presented to me when I arrived at the website to make me realize that I honestly did not know what I was initially looking at. I had to sift through all of the material to perceive where the specific tabs of the website were so I could navigate to find the information I was looking for. The experience was similar to every website, but some seemed more densely packed with information than others. In general, this proved to be the aspect that was most unhelpful as it took (what I felt) much longer than it should have to find the information I was looking for in order to complete the assignment. I am curious, did anyone else have a similar experience to mine?

I found all of the professional associations supporting the field of psychology to be very helpful. American Psychological Association (APA), American Counseling Association (ACA), American School Counseling Association (ASCA), Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP) and American Psychology and Law Society are associations that are working in the area of psychology with the reason to propel the field of psychology and give valuable examination and data that might be helpful for individuals identified with the field, including experts, understudies and even the overall population. The sites are loaded with understanding on pertinent points and give various choices and open doors for the general population in the realm of psychology to help them accomplish their overall goals. I found the sites valuable and loaded with essential data. All of the organizations given to research exhibited data with respect to their capacities, how they work, and in addition the assets they make accessible. The organizations also identified their vision and mission and the way they are attempting to accomplish those missions and additionally made the information accessible on their sites. I like the fact that they provided news regarding the innovations taking place in the world of society as well as important and fresh research. Above all, these sites are stacked with data allowing any individual who needs information in regards to the organization to discover valuable product to comprehend the explanation for their presence and how they are serving the general public and other experts working in the field. It serves as a guide to make sure you have the proper knowledge and education for desired career.

The websites provided numerous sources of identified with practice and education in the public eye which experts and understudies alike will discover of utilization. Also it good to know that I will be able to refer back to the organizations sites if I need information. The information on subspecialties is very valuable and will of use when deciding on career fields. .I took a course similar to this a while back and even then as I navigated through the sites they offered newly information and in depth knowledge of all the associations had to offer and how they would of use to me in my desired career field. Using these sites will be beneficial to anyone looking to study or have a career in psychology. I can’t say I found any missing from the sites
