Reflection paper

Reflection paper

this assignment will be a two pages personnel reflection paper in which the student or someone he or she knows  will relate some personnel experience to one of the assigned readings for the course. For instance, is there some character in one of the works you have read, or some statement, episode, thought or incident that you feel you have also experienced in some way shape or form. The Reflection Assignment is a two page paper in which you take something that you have heard or read from the course and relate it to something you or someone you know may have experienced in life. It can be something that was said, a character in one of  the readings, a philosophy that we have encountered. One way I have explained it to students in the past is to compare it if you were watching a movie or reading a book and some character reminds you of someone you know personally or maybe something that that character said or experienced causes you to remember a time when you or someone you know felt or experienced something similar. Or maybe some statement or philosophy that your read in the readings cause you to say, "Oh, I can relate to that because I went through something similar.
As an example. When I was 17 months old, my mother got sick and was paralyzed for the rest of her life. As I grew up, I watched her as she was determined to set goals for herself and when she accomplished one goal she would set another. Her primary goal was to live long enough to see my sister and myself graduate from high school and then college. She knew she was not supposed to live that long based on her condition but she made it anyway. This can compare to Penelope in the Odyssey as she set goals in her life and was determined to hang on long enough to see her husband return and her son to grow into manhood.
Your reflection does not have to be something like that, but I hope it helps you get some sense of what I am trying to get the students to do as they read about these individuals from long ago and see that they went through similar  situations just like we do today.
The material of the course starts from 1650 AD up to Modern times. As an example it can be a person whom student might know who had similar life path as Vincent Van Gogh. Or a student who have something in common with Mark Twain.
