.) Recall a research project (academic or real world) you've had (an extended essay, presentation, report, group project, etc). Describe the process you used from assignment to finished product. What did you find valuable about this assignment or project? What aspects frustrated you?
.) Read Chapter 1 "Owning your Research" (pages 1-8) in our textbook. Write two suggestions you gained from the reading that you find helpful to your own writing process.
.) In Chapter 3, "Exploring and Sharpening your Topic", the authors suggest the use of an interest inventory or idea journal as ways to generate interesting topics for research writing.  List three interests or ideas that are of "persistent interest to you" (p. 23).Â
.) How familiar are you with library and its materials, particularly online resources (ie, E-Books, databases)? How comfortable are you finding books on the shelves, and accessing articles from databases? Write one or more questions you have about using library sources in your research for this course.
.) Briefly describe what you believe are the differences between accessing sources from the Web and accessing sources from online library databases. Why do you believe students are more likely to use sources from the Internet (ie, Google, Wikipedia, etc)?Â
.) How do you define academic integrity? What counts as "cheating" when it comes to writing?  What policies does specific university have in place regarding academic integrity?
.) Review the course syllabus (found at the top of our Moodle page).  Share one or more questions you have about this course, specific assignments, or policies.
.) Write two goals you have for this class.  What writing/research skills do you want to improve upon in the upcoming weeks?
.) Share one thing you want your instructor and classmates to know about you.Â
Thank you! Â :)
