Major events in world history have influenced the music that is created and listened to. During the 20th Century there have been a number of events that have directly influenced are and music. Some examples would include WW I and II, the Civil Rights Movement, and the Vietnam War.
One good example of this is John Adam’s piece “On The Transmigration of Souls” which won the 2003 Pulitzer Prize for Music. The piece was commissioned by the New York Philharmonic to be performed one year after the attacks on the World Trade Center.
Name a piece of music (it does not have to be a “classical” work, but rather any piece of music) that was influenced by a specific event in world history. Be sure to describe how the piece was influenced by the event.
