Introduction and Alignment

By the end of end of this workshop, you will complete your biographical and musical critique presentation on the life of a classical composer and one of their works. Before you submit your assignment, be sure to carefully compare biographical and critical analysis content to the line items in the assignment rubric. This will help ensure you receive maximum point totals for your efforts. Please remember, points will be deducted for presentations that run over the time limit.

Upon successful completion of this assignment you will be able to:

• Demonstrate a fundamental understanding of the principals that govern aesthetics in the discipline of music.
• Demonstrate a vocabulary appropriate to the discussion of music and be able to use these terms in the discussion of historical style periods, musical excerpts, and complete works.
• Demonstrate a basic knowledge of the major historical style periods of Western Music and discuss sound, melody, harmony, rhythm, form, and texture as they apply to each period.
• Demonstrate auditory recognition of the elements of music, within master works as well as contemporary American music.

Instructions

1. Using Microsoft PowerPoint, create a presentation for your previously selected historic composer.
2. You will use the corresponding rubric above for creating your presentation. Please pay attention to the prescribed style and format guidelines.
3. All online presentations must be a narrated, auto-advancing PowerPoint file. See the procedure examples at Youtube.comYoutube search hint: Search on "narrated PowerPoint presentation."

5. Remember, this is a 100 point assignment and should represent your best work.
6. When you have completed your assignment, save a copy for yourself and submit a copy to your instructor for a grade using the Dropbox by the end of the workshop.
7. In the next workshop you will post your presentation file in the Workshop 5.2 discussion forum designated for peer review. This will be a small group review project.
