After carefully reading chapter 5 of World on the edge from Brown, I do believe that he is making a compelling case. He brings up a lot of relevant information, which could help explain the reason for the way the environment is around the world. On page sixty Brown explains the three main reasons for the growing demand on food. Which are population growth, rising affluences and the associated jump in meat, milk, and egg consumption, lastly the use of grain to fuel cars. With these list of things it makes sense to why the environment is in trouble and that means the people are in trouble as well. It makes no sense to take food out of the mouths of people and to put into the material things like a vehicle. Especially because cars aren’t helping the environment at all, it is making it worst. Not only by the obvious reason that it forms air pollution, but also the fact that there are more cars taking up space in the environment and creating less space to grow crops. Especially in a country like China. China has to basically rent out land from other countries to grow their crops because they have limited amount of space to grown their own from their homeland. What makes this piece relevant to me, is when Brown talks about food riots, and one of the countries he mentioned was Haiti. I have family in Haiti, and at the time that the food riots were accruing I had family leaving there. This would be a form of logos in my situation. Ultimately Brown explains the problems in the past, and it makes sense to why certain things are happening now.
